◎HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
Once there was a hunting dog. He chased the rabbit out of the cage. After a long period of time, he still did not catch the rabbit. The shepherd saw the situation and was laughing at the hunting dog, ” Among the two of you, the little one runs much faster.”
The hunting dog replies,” You probably are not aware of the difference in our running! I only run for my meals, and he runs for his life!”
◎GOAL
This conversation was overheard by the hunter who said to himself, ” The hunting dog is right. If I want to get more hunted goods, I must think of a good strategy.” Then the hunter bought a few more hunting dogs. He rewarded those dogs who could catch the rabbits. Those dogs who could not catch the rabbits were left without bones. This was a good strategy. The hunting dogs worked very hard to catch the rabbits because they did not want to go hungry. After a while a problem came; the big rabbits are harder to catch than the smaller rabbits. But the rewards are the same regardless the size of the preys, so the hunting dogs discovered the secret, they all hunted the smaller rabbits.
After a while every one know about the secret.
The hunter asked the hunting dogs,” lately your preys of rabbits are getting smaller and smaller, I wonder why ?” The hunting dogs answered,” The rewards are the same regardless of the size of the rabbits, why should we work so hard to catch the bigger rabbits ?”
◎MOTIVATION
The hunter after a long scrutiny, decided not to reward the dogs by the number of the hunted rabbits, but by the total weight of the rabbits within an allotment of time. As a result the number of the hunted rabbits and the total weight increased. The hunter was very happy.
But after a while, the hunter discovered the number of caught rabbits decreased especially among the experienced hunting dogs. Then the hunter asked the hunting dogs again.
The hunting dogs said, ” Master, we gave you our best time of our life! But after so long we become old and when we can not catch the rabbits, are you still going to give us bones ?”
◎THE LONG TERM REWARDS OF BONES
The hunter came out with a strategy, after the exceeded number and weight, even the dogs could not get any more rabbits, they get a certain amount of bones for their meals.
The hunting dogs were all very happy. They all worked to reach their goal of the number of the hunted rabbits. But after a while, some hunting dogs said, ” we work merely for some sticks of bones, and our preys are far better than those bones. Why don’t we catch the rabbits for ourselves ?” Then, some hunting dogs left their master, they caught the rabbits for themselves……..
Nevertheless, why do we let the rewards for ourselves decided by other people?
In reality, the majority of people wait till crisis comes to scrutinize the value and meaning of life, just like the old dogs in the story. When we are of value to the company we sink in the policies and strategies of the company. After some time when we discover we no longer are competitive, we realize our security and confidence are at a crucial test. The future of the employees are in the hands of the boss; the future of the boss is in the profit margin of the company, the profit margin depends on the markets but who can control the rise and falls of the marketing worlds.
If you think ahead, you can plan ahead.
I remember a well respected leader among the entrepreneurs, Mr. Jueng Ik Pai who said that the proudest thing in his life is,” He NEVER let himself to be placed on the scale of marketing or career life where other people judged him by how much he was worth in an hour, a day or a month. He told himself, how much he was worth. He accepted with an open heart of all new view points, when he found his goal, he would not let
the opportunity of different tests slipped threw his fingers. He would learn through repeated power of established ability, then fearlessly he worked hard to prove himself there are unlimited possibilities in our lives waiting for us to reach the land of economic freedom.
Recently, the “Star” paper came out with news on the coach for the Laker team, Mr. Phil Jackson who was not happy at his annual salary of $6 million. This number is a big number for most people. But for this outstanding coach who went from the East coast to the west coast, this figure is not enough for him. Because he feels he is worth far more than $ 6 million. Many people agrees with him. The main reason: He told himself how much he should be worth; he also told other people how much he is worth. Moreover, he convinced other people to agree with him.
